Unique Custom Homes: Integrating Your Outdoor Playground Into Your Landscaping

Phil Myers - Thursday, September 22, 2016

If you’re thinking about building a custom home, then you don’t want just any ordinary home. You want one of the unique custom homes in Indianapolis. While you probably don’t want your home to stand out like a sore thumb, you do want it to be a place people love visiting. A great way to create one of those unique custom homes is by integrating a playground into your landscaping. Here are just a few ways you can do that:

This one may seem obvious, but treehouses are one of the easiest ways to incorporate your backyard playground into your landscaping. Unique custom homes deserve unique backyards and one way to do that is to create a custom treehouse. If you have a lot of strong trees growing in your backyard, then you can create platforms in several trees and connect them with bridges, giving your kids an entire treehouse system. If you’re more traditional, then consider building a treehouse that is designed and looks exactly like your home. Your kids will love being able to play in a smaller version of their house.

Tunnel Slides

Do you have hills in your backyard? Why not get even more use out of them than just planting flowers and shrubs? Make them part of your kids’ backyard adventures! Tunnel slides don’t just have to go from the top of a playset to the ground. Instead, incorporate them into your hills and landscaping. Your kids will love going from the top of a hill to the bottom in their very own secret tunnel slide. Plus, with a hidden tunnel slide, you don’t have to worry about one of those bright yellow playground slides being an eyesore in your backyard.

Climbing Obstacles

If your kids love to climb, like most kids do, then why not create a safe place for them to climb in the backyard? From climbing trees to climbing playsets, you can create unique features in your backyard. If you want to make it even more challenging, use cargo nets. When your kids have to climb up and down cargo nets, they’ll feel like they’re on a mission and it’ll keep them entertained much longer than a simple ladder will. Another great climbing obstacle is a small rock wall. You may not want a rock tower taking up your entire backyard, but you can easily create a wall that blends in with your landscaping. Or, use the trees in your backyard to create climbing towers.

Ziplines and Rope Courses

This one may be a little more unusual than the other backyard playground options, it’ll be fun for the entire family. If you have established trees, then you can create a series of rope courses and ziplines that go from tree to tree. Everyone in your family will love hanging out above the back yard. If you don’t have those established trees, then your custom home builder can help you install poles that will support your zip lines and rope courses. You can still enjoy the challenging thrill without the trees.
