The Custom Home Building Process: What to Expect

Phil Myers - Wednesday, December 21, 2016

Thinking about building a custom home? If it’s your first time building a custom home, you might be a little leary of the custom home building process. Not knowing what to expect while you’re building the home can make it difficult to just jump in and get started. However, when you know what to expect during the process, it makes building the home of your dreams so much easier.

Finally deciding to build a custom home is a great feeling. No doubt you probably spend significant time weighing out all of your different options and the benefits that each option provides. Building a custom home means you’re going to end up with a home that fits your family and lifestyle perfectly. However, getting to the finish line isn’t as easy as shows on HGTV would have you believe. Knowing what goes into the custom home building process will help ease your mind and help you prepare for what’s ahead of you.

The Phil Myers Custom Home Building Process

While every home builder’s process is a little different and unique, the Phil Myers custom home building process is all about you.

  2. We start with a free consultation and ask a lot of questions.
  3. We want to get to know you, your family, and your dream home. You’ll have questions for us and we’ll have questions for you. This is just a chance for us to get to know each other.
  5. We work together to plan your home.
  6. The team at Phil Myers doesn’t just plan whatever home they want for you. We take the notes from our conversation and start working on a plan that fits your dreams and needs. This is a really fun part of the custom home building process. During the planning phase, you get to decide how many bedrooms you want, how big of a kitchen you need, and all of the features that go into making a house a home.
  8. You get to watch as your home is built.
  9. With the plans finalized, we’ll start breaking ground on your home! We’ll work hard to make sure timelines and budgets are adhered to, so you can move into your new home on your scheduled move-in date. We actually encourage all of our clients to visit the build site whenever they want, so you can actually watch your home take shape.
  11. You get to start packing your boxes.
  12. Once the final touches go on, you can start packing up your old house and preparing to move in. While moving might cause some stress, you can rest easy knowing it will all be worth it when you unlock the front door of your new home.

While building a custom home might seem like an intimidating process and is certainly a little more complicated than what’s listed above, it doesn’t have to be a stressful time. In fact, custom home building should be fun! Knowing what to expect before you dive in should give you some peace of mind and understanding of the road ahead of you.
