Custom Home Ideas: What To Include In Your Pantry

Phil Myers - Tuesday, November 29, 2016

What does your pantry look like right now? Are there canned goods scattered all over the place? Are countertop appliances like blenders shoved on shelves wherever they fit? Can you even walk all the way in? When it comes to your pantry, you need organization, space, and features that make living easier. Finding custom home ideas is easy, but finding the right inspiration for your pantry can be difficult.

Custom Home Ideas: What’s Not Working With Most Pantries

Most pantries don’t have adequate space for everything you need to store at any given time let alone the times when you need to stock up on supplies.

Pantries aren’t built in a way that makes life convenient. Usually, you have to slide between shelves, step over boxes, and maneuver your way to whatever it is you’re looking for.

Pantry organization, for most, isn’t a thing. You find an empty spot on the shelf and place a stack of cans, then move on to the next empty space until you’ve unpacked all of the groceries.

Custom Home Ideas: Here’s What To Include In Your Pantry

As you’re building your custom home and looking for custom home ideas, be sure to keep these pantry tips in mind:

Cabinets and Counters

Rather than strictly using shelves in your pantry, consider using cabinets and counters. This gives you a great way to hide the messy pantry plus gives you even more counter space to prep your food.

Roll Top Storage

If you hate leaving counter appliances like blenders, food processors, and microwaves out in your kitchen, then put them in the pantry. But, don’t just set them on a shelf. Instead, use a cabinet with a roll top for easy access. Make the space even more convenient by adding outlets so you can use the appliance right where it is instead of carrying back and forth to the kitchen.

Wire Baskets

Tired of not knowing exactly what’s in your pantry? Wire baskets are a great way to start the organization process. They’re great for root vegetables like potatoes and for storing chips, crackers, and packaged cookies.

Glass Jars

Make the pantry truly transparent by storing dry goods like cereal in glass jars and containers. This will help minimize clutter and help you from over purchasing on food you don’t need yet.

Adjustable Shelving

For the shelving in your pantry, go with adjustable shelves. By using this style of shelving, you organize based on your needs. One shelf can be shorter for canned goods and other taller for cookie jars and cereal boxes.

Door Storage

No one wants wasted space in the pantry, so utilize every square inch by adding storage to the back of the pantry door. This area is great for cleaning supplies, paper goods, spices, and cooking essentials.
