You love spending time at the pool on a hot day, but you’d also love to enjoy a dip in the pool on a cooler day. As far as custom home ideas are concerned, designing an indoor pool is fantastic. It gives you a place to relax and your kids a place to play even when the weather isn’t so nice. Typical custom home ideas have to do with updating the kitchen or adding features in your master bathroom, but this idea is for everyone in your house.
As you begin planning your custom home, keep these things in mind for your indoor pool:
Consider The Space
Before you start digging up the lower level floor or start changing the entire layout of your dream home, you need to think about the space. If you want an indoor pool, then you need to make sure you have the room for it. It could be that the indoor pool you install isn’t as large as an outdoor one. You also may be limited on the shape of the pool. If you really want an indoor pool, then you’ll need to talk to your custom home builder about all of your options. However, it will more than likely need to be added onto the back of your home in a sunroom or in the lower level of the house. It all depends on your lifestyle and the way you like to enjoy your pool time.
Connect It To The Outside
One way you can make an indoor pool more versatile is by connecting it to an outside pool. Simply creating a swimming path from the indoor to the outdoor pool will allow you to swim from one to the other. If you build one of these connections, though, you’ll need a way to block it in the colder months so that you can still use your indoor pool. These types of pools also work best when you build the pool in a sunroom off the back of the home.
Space for Lounging
Just because your pool is indoors, doesn’t mean it isn’t still a great place to lounge. If you build the pool in a sunroom or other similar space, then you can still soak up the sun while your kids play. If you build the pool in the lower level of your home, then you can still relax next to the pool, just be sure you include appropriate ambient lighting to make it feel like you’re outside. No matter where you build, the pool is still a great place to hang out with friends, read a book, and relax.
Fun For The Kids
Don’t forget that the pool is a great place for the kids to hang out and have fun. Sure, you’ll want to add elegant features like a waterfall or nice pool furniture, but you’ll also want to add fun features your kids will enjoy. Consider a water slide hiding behind that waterfall or even fountains shooting water into the pool. You can even add built-in storage in the pool area to keep their toys and swim gear neat and organized.
